Irish babies need more sunshine Vitamin D

Irish babies and toddlers are not getting enough Vitamin D. Also known as the sunshine vitamin it is necessary for good bone development. The climate in Ireland can lead to lack of Vitamin D which puts children at risk of poor bone development and can in extreme cases lead to rickets.

Dark skinned babies area at greatest risk, but we advise all parents to give daily Vitamin D drops to babies and infants. These are available without prescription at your local Pharmacy. Further information from the HSE is available at HSE.ie
